Our 7th graders stepped back in time last week! After learning about the Oregon Trail, they got to play the journey and even taste a trail staple: hardtack, just like 1800s explorers survived on. A fun (and crunchy) way to bring history to life!

Students first had to figure out how to navigate the game before beginning their journey.
Students explored the many challenges people faced along the way.

Our students are growing their own rock candy while exploring how crystal formation models the rock cycle. Just like igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks, these sugary structures take time, heat, and the right conditions to form!

❄️💨🔥These young scientists turned up the heat in science class today! With a paper plate, some string, and a blast of serious warmth, they set their experiment in motion—literally! As the warm air rose, their plates spun like magic, proving just how powerful temperature can be. This phenomenon definitely brings the heat when introducing interacting air masses!

🍋 “This lemon-tastic, hands-on lab had students squeezing their way to scientific success! Our young scientists put their skills to the test, investigating whether heated lemons yield more juice than those at room temperature. With a splash of curiosity and a squeeze of critical thinking, they collected evidence, tested their claims, and crafted rock-solid claim, evidence, and reasoning statements. Who knew science could be so refreshing?”

🌋💎From candy to crystals! 🍬🔬Our 7th grade scientists-in-training used Starbursts to model the rock cycle-melting, cooling, and pressing their way through the stages of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. A sweet start to our rock cycle unit!
