BRODIE GOODWIN AND JOSEPH LEWIS WILL REPRESENT MHS AT BOYS STATE
Magnolia High School juniors, Brodie Goodwin and Joseph Lewis were nominated to represent their community and school at Arkansas Boys State 2024, an immersive leadership and civic engagement experience sponsored by the American Legion. The local sponsor for Brodie Goodwin is Farmers Bank & Trust Co. and Joseph Lewis is sponsored locally by Peoples Bank.
They will join more than 565 young men from 190 high schools attending the program's 83rd session at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway from May 26-31. The program's 2024 enrollment marks its largest class of young men in seven years.
"Arkansas Boys State is a legacy program that has produced remarkable local, state, national and international leaders," said Lloyd Jackson, executive director of Arkansas Boys State.
During their week at Arkansas Boys State, Goodwin and Lewis will be assigned a political party, city, and county. They will administer, from the ground up, a mock government as if it were real: run for office, draft and pass legislation, solve municipal challenges and engage constituents.
"This year's remarkable growth speaks to how this program is playing a life-changing role in the lives of the young men who join us year after year," said Jackson. "We're thrilled that they are joining us and will experience this once-in-a-lifetime leadership opportunity in just a few weeks."
The week's activities, including keynote speakers, general assemblies, and election speeches, will be streamed live by Arkansas PBS on their Arkansas Citizens Access Network: https://www.myarkansaspbs.org/arcan.

The Magnolia School District would like to congratulate Jodie Arnold, who recently received National Board Certification in Early Childhood education. Jodie is currently a third grade teacher at Central Elementary School.
Arnold commented, “Pursuing Board certification has been a rewarding experience that has helped me grow as a teacher. I encourage other educators in my district to pursue National Board Certification.”
The founding mission of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is to advance the quality of teaching and learning by maintaining high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do. National Board Certification is the most respected professional certification available in education and provides numerous benefits to teachers, students, and schools. It was designed to develop, retain, and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide.

Magnolia School District will return to school on Monday, January 22 on a regular schedule. We still have many roads throughout the district covered in ice. Buses will not travel down unsafe roads.

Roads throughout the
Magnolia School District are unsafe for travel. We will remain closed Friday, Jan. 19th and plan to resume classes on Monday, Jan. 22nd.

While main road conditions improve, less traveled roads, sidewalks and parking lots remain too icy to safely return to school. Low temperatures overnight will cause refreezing as well. We will remain closed on Thursday. Stay warm!

School will remain closed on Wednesday, Jan. 17, due to inclement weather and poor road conditions. Stay Warm.

Due to inclement weather, we will not have school on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Plans for Wednesday will be announced tomorrow. Any make-up days will be announced at a later date. Stay warm!

As we prepare for the expected inclement weather next week, we will be monitoring closely to make any closure decision as early as possible. Typically, we try to make decisions on closing based on actual conditions as opposed to forecasted weather. Unless it is evident road conditions are unsafe the prior night, we will decide on the morning of the potential closure.
We are required to provide 178 days of face-to-face instruction and will make up any days missed; AMI days are no longer an option. If we close school, those days will be made up either during the scheduled winter break or at the end of the year.
