The Magnolia School District would like to congratulate Jodie Arnold, who recently received National Board Certification in Early Childhood education. Jodie is currently a third grade teacher at Central Elementary School.
Arnold commented, “Pursuing Board certification has been a rewarding experience that has helped me grow as a teacher. I encourage other educators in my district to pursue National Board Certification.”
The founding mission of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is to advance the quality of teaching and learning by maintaining high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do. National Board Certification is the most respected professional certification available in education and provides numerous benefits to teachers, students, and schools. It was designed to develop, retain, and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide.

Magnolia School District will return to school on Monday, January 22 on a regular schedule. We still have many roads throughout the district covered in ice. Buses will not travel down unsafe roads.

Roads throughout the
Magnolia School District are unsafe for travel. We will remain closed Friday, Jan. 19th and plan to resume classes on Monday, Jan. 22nd.

While main road conditions improve, less traveled roads, sidewalks and parking lots remain too icy to safely return to school. Low temperatures overnight will cause refreezing as well. We will remain closed on Thursday. Stay warm!

School will remain closed on Wednesday, Jan. 17, due to inclement weather and poor road conditions. Stay Warm.

Due to inclement weather, we will not have school on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Plans for Wednesday will be announced tomorrow. Any make-up days will be announced at a later date. Stay warm!

As we prepare for the expected inclement weather next week, we will be monitoring closely to make any closure decision as early as possible. Typically, we try to make decisions on closing based on actual conditions as opposed to forecasted weather. Unless it is evident road conditions are unsafe the prior night, we will decide on the morning of the potential closure.
We are required to provide 178 days of face-to-face instruction and will make up any days missed; AMI days are no longer an option. If we close school, those days will be made up either during the scheduled winter break or at the end of the year.

The love of reading is contagious, and learning opportunities abound when schools and communities partner together to focus on building a culture of reading for their students, families, and community. Because of their outstanding school/community collaboration, the Arkansas Department of Education recently recognized seven cities as R.I.S.E Communities for 2022-2023.
ADE’s Reading Initiative for Student Excellence, or R.I.S.E. Arkansas program, encourages reading beyond just the classroom and sets a goal to create communities and schools that promote a culture of reading for residents of all ages.
To be eligible for the recognition, schools and communities submitted a letter of commitment, developed an action plan, and provided a portfolio that showed evidence of implementation throughout the year. Applications were then scored using a rubric. There was one factor that each recognized community had in common: dedication to promoting the love of reading.
The only community and district to be recognized a Gold-Level winner twice is Magnolia. Magnolia submitted the maximum number of ten literacy events in their application for the award. These events promoted the importance of creating a culture and love of reading and collaboration among the schools and community. Friday, December 8, a celebration was held at the Magnolia Performing Arts Center. Representatives from the Arkansas Department of Education presented Superintendent John Ward, District Curriculum Coordinator Penny Talley, and the state and community partners with the award.
The District appreciates the support provided by the community and businesses of Magnolia. Without the donated funds and time from these collaborating partners, the literacy events and winning the R.I.S.E. Community Award would not be possible.

MAGNOLIA SCHOOL DISTRICT CHRISTMAS CARD
A Christmas card creation by Magnolia Middle School eighth-grade art student, Ja’Kaleigh Carter, was chosen to be used by the Magnolia School District for the upcoming holiday season. JaKaleigh’s creation will be reproduced as the 2023 Christmas card for the District. Superintendent John Ward will send out the card to each employee of the Magnolia School District. JaKaleigh is the daughter of Brittany Simmons.
